Advisor to the Cambodian government Sok Siphanna said Monday that Cambodia fully supported the establishment of the Lancang-Mekong River Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism.

"I'm confident that the mechanism will contribute to developing connectivity infrastructure and agriculture and to reducing poverty in the six countries involved," he told former Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Zhang Jinfeng during a meeting.

He said Cambodia's current need is capital for investing in connectivity projects such as roads, bridges, ports and railways.

The Lancang-Mekong River runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, serving as a natural bond that links the six countries together.

Zhang said her visit to Cambodia was to gather input for the establishment of the mechanism, which will be focused on five major sectors, including infrastructure, economics, water resources, poverty reduction and agriculture.

"China is paying high attention to this mechanism and hopes that it will bring development and prosperity to the whole region," she said.

Zhang led a six-member delegation, comprised of Chinese foreign ministry officials and researchers, to visit three of the Mekong countries.
