German Tino Thomel won a photo finish at the seventh stage of the Tour of Hainan cycling race on Monday.
The Santic cycling team (RTS) rider took his first stage win in Hainan with a time of 3:46:46. He rode solo since there were only two riders left in his team.
The stage from Sanya to Dongfang covered 165.7 kilometers with three three intermediate sprints.
Sacha Modolo from Lampre-Merida (LAM) kept the yellow and green jersey as the best rider and sprinter.
Ma Guangtong from Hengxiang cycling team (HEN) was awarded the blue jersey that represents the best Asian rider, while Julien el Fares from Team Marseille kept the polka-dot jersey as the best climber.
"I did not expect to win before the stage, because there are only two riders in our team by now, that means I must have my own sprint," said Thomel. "But today I got the right feeling on sprint that makes the victory happens."
Tour of Hainan lasts nine days and the eighth stage, from Dongfang to Wuzhishan, covers 204.8 kilometers. Endi
