2nd LD Writethru: 12 killed, 73 injured in fire at karaoke bar in eastern Indonesia

Fire at a karaoke bar earlier Sunday in Manado city in eastern Indonesia has left 12 people dead and 73 others injured, head of local disaster management agency said.

The fire occurred at about 1:00 a.m. local time at the second floor of a building on Boulevard street, triggering thick smoke, Head of local Disaster Management Agency Max Tatahede said.

"The victims were trapped at the second and the third floors, but most of them were found at the third floor. Most of victims died of smoke inhalation," he told Xinhua by phone from Manado city, the provincial capital of North Sulawesi.

The wounded have been rushed to nearby hospitals, Tatahede said. Enditem
