Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 21 militants were killed when Pakistani army launched air strikes in two separate areas of the country's northwest tribal region of Khyber Agency, an official statement said Thursday.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the mouthpiece of Pakistani army, said in a statement that the military backed by fighter jets pounded four hideouts of the militants in Tirah Valley and Rajgal areas of Khyber Agency, a restive tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The statement added that the strike was launched in the wee hours of the morning, and identities of the killed militants were not revealed.

The recent strikes are part of the army's ongoing Khyber Operation in the area.

Launched in October last year, the Khyber Operation aims at the eradication of the militancy from the Khyber Agency which is considered as a hot bed of Taliban militants.

According to local media tally, over 500 militants have been killed and more than 400 surrendered in the operation which was conducted in two phases, operation Khyber 1 and operation Khyber 2. Enditem
