Tokyo stocks end 0.64 pct lower after recent gains

Tokyo stocks ended 0.64 percent lower Thursday on choppy trading as investors moved to lock in on recent gains ahead of a series of key central bank meetings at home and abroad as well as earnings reports.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 118.41 points, from Wednesday at 18,435.87. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 8.59 points, or 0.56 percent, to 1,518.22.

Decliners were led by pharmaceutical, construction and precision instrument issues.

The turnover was 1,983.51 billion yen (about 16.56 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
