SK Hynix, the world's second-largest maker of memory chips, posted a 6.3 percent rise in operating profit during the July-September period due to strong sales of chips for mobile phones, a regulatory filing showed Thursday.
The South Korean chipmaker's operating profit increased 6.3 percent from a year earlier to 1.38 trillion won (1.21 billion U.S. dollars) in the third quarter, topping the 1 trillion-won mark for seven straight quarters.
Revenue gained 14.2 percent to 4.93 trillion won in the quarter, and net income reached 1.05 trillion won.
The positive results came from robust sales of semiconductors used for mobile phones. Shipments of DRAM and NAND Flash chips expanded 11 percent and 15 percent each, but average prices of both products declined.
The chipmaker invested 5.3 trillion won for the first nine months of this year, including 1.5 trillion won in the third quarter. Enditem
