"Chinese Fashion Night" staged in Brussels

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

The "Chinese Fashion Night" was staged in Brussels Wednesday night, highlighting the Chinese fashion design.

The "Chinese Fashion Night", co-host by the Mission of China to the European Union (EU) and the China Cultural Centre in Brussels, showcased the latest collections of two designers, Grace Chen and Tiffany Pattinson.

In particular, Chen mainly presented cocktail dresses and evening gowns, full of lightness. On the other hand, Pattinson focused on futurist and colorful collection.

"I am proud to say that contrary to assumptions that fashion is something peculiarly Western, over the course of China's 5,000-year-old civilization, fashions have always been a vital part of Chinese life and culture," said Yang Yanyi, the head of the Chinese Mission to the EU at the opening ceremony.

"Especially over the past three decades, along side socio-economic transformation and upgrading of people's living standard, there have been vibrant developments in fashion and dress in China and emergence of cross-time and cross-culture fashion designers like Grace Chen who have become important players in both the local and international markets," added the ambassador.

Chen said she hoped that the event would help showcase the Chinese culture to the world, as well as demonstrate the development of China's fashion industry and the achievements of Chinese fashion designers.

She also said she personally would like to show "what's 'east meet west' fashion design" and "modernized Chinese design" through her collections. Endit
