Swiss health expenditure in 2013 close to 70 bln CHF: report

Xinhua, October 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) said on Tuesday that Switzerland's total health care spending for 2013 reached 69.2 billion CHF (72.48 billion U.S. dollars).

Representing a 2.5 percent increase compared to the previous year, FSO highlighted that the rise was lower than the level registered over the last five years.

Figures indicated that a rise in health expenditure per capita was recorded in 2013, with each person spending on average 713 CHF per month on health care, up 9 CHF compared to 2012.

FSO stated that 262 CHF of this monthly amount were covered by compulsory health insurance.

The statistical official furthermore reported that 10.9 percent of the confederation's gross domestic product (GDP) was spent on health care in the period under review.

Hospital health related expenditure remained stable, with only a slight increase (1.4 percent) reported compared to the previous year, while health product retailers reported a 3.3 percent drop largely attributable to new legislative measures affecting the acquisition of hearing aids. Enditem
