Ghanian president inaugurates court complex built by Chinese company

Xinhua, October 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ghanian President John Dramani Mahama on Friday assured Ghanaians of his commitment to fight corruption.

Speaking at the inauguration of a multi-million dollar court complex for the judicial Service in Accra, President Mahama said he would continue to work to strengthen the country's institutions, especially the anti-corruption institutions.

"They will be assisted to carry out their work without fear or favor," he said.

The 50 million-U.S. dollar facility replaces the colonial and dilapidated Cocoa Affairs Court which has in the past housed Circuit and High Courts in the Metropolis.

The 42-room facility was constructed by the China State Hualong Construction, Ghana Limited.

"The new court complex is a lasting symbol of the respect and faith our citizens have in the justice system," Mahama said.

The Chief Justice Georgina Wood said the Judicial Service was committed to ridding the service of corruption.

The proposed six-storey court complex, an environmentally sound building, is being designed in an iconic format to symbolize the modernity of the court system, incorporating the themes of justice, history, religion and economic development. Endit
