Beninese accused of poison plot against president mulls presidential bid

Xinhua, October 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Beninese businessman Patrice Talon who was accused of a 2012 plot to poison President Boni Yayi, returned to the country on Thursday after years in exile in France.

A family member told Xinhua Talon had come back and was considering contesting the presidential poll due in February next year.

Talon last month told a Pan-African magazine he was thinking about "his candidacy in the presidential election".

Talon, a former cotton trader, was one of the key supporters of Yayi during the country's 2006 election.

He was accused of plotting to poison the president in October 2012 and planning a coup in February 2013.

In May 2014, Yayi announced through a message to the nation that he had forgiven all those implicated in the two cases. Enditem
