Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled his visit to Germany on Thursday amid the escalated Israeli-Palestinian violence, his office said on Wednesday.
Netanyahu said Israel would "crackdown" on the recent wave of terrorism, announcing moves like expediting the demolition of homes of Palestinian militants, installing more security cameras on West Bank roads and continuing to deploy vast security forces in east Jerusalem and the West Bank area.
On Wednesday a Palestinian suspect was shot dead by Israeli police in the southcentral city of Kiryat Gat, about 50 km south of Tel Aviv, after he stabbed and lightly injured an Israeli soldier and grabbing his personal weapon, according to the Israeli military.
This is the first such attack that has taken place outside Jerusalem and the West Bank in the recent wave of violent clashes.
Only hours earlier, a Palestinian woman stabbed and lightly injured two Israelis in Jerusalem's Old City before she was shot and seriously injured.
Near the West Bank city of Ramallah, a young Palestinian man was shot dead on Wednesday afternoon during clashes with Israeli army forces. A Facebook video showed one of the masked Israeli soldiers, wearing civilian garments, opened fire at the Palestinian young man and killing him.
Jewish settlers shot and seriously wounded a 18-year-old Palestinian in the West Bank near the settlement of Tekoa, and the Palestinian city of Bethlehem.
The Israel Defense Forces said that the incident took place shortly after the Palestinian and others allegedly pelted stones at a car of a 38-year-old Israeli woman, riding on a nearby road. She told Israeli media that several Palestinians tried to forcibly remove her from the car but she managed to escape.
At least four Israelis and four Palestinians have died in attacks or clashes during the past week. More than 700 Palestinians have sustained injuries, mostly from rubber bullet injuries and inhalation of tear gas, measures used by the Israeli army to disperse riots.
The clashes, which broke out early last month amid the Jewish holidays and surrounding the flashpoint site of Temple Mount in east Jerusalem, holy to both Jews and Muslims, escalated into full-blown clashes between Palestinian protesters, Israeli security services and Jewish settlers. Endit
