Guinea Bissau PM promises to form new gov't "soon"

Xinhua, October 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Guinea Bissau's new Prime Minister Carlos Correia on Tuesday promised to form a new government "very soon."

Addressing the press in the capital Bissau, Correia said he was finalizing consultations with President Jose Mario Vaz with a view of forming a new government.

Since the dismissal of the last government that was led by Domingos Pereira about two months ago, Guinea Bissau has not had a government.

The list of people chosen by the prime minister to be part of the governmental team was handed over last Friday to the president. However, the president has not yet validated the list and no explanation has been given.

Elsewhere, Guinea Bissau's majority party, African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) met on Tuesday at its headquarters with representatives of the National Alliance for Peace, Stability and Democracy to plan the formation of a new government, the party's spokesman told Xinhua.

The National Alliance is an organization bringing together trade unions, NGOs and youth organizations. Endit
