Xinhua, October 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has appointed new ministers following the creation of new ministries recently, his office said on Wednesday.

Last month, the Zambian leader created five new ministries by splitting some ministries in an effort aimed at improving efficiency in service delivery.

The new ministries include Ministry of Development Planning, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Energy and Water Development, Ministry of Works and Supply and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

The Zambian leader has named the country's Vice-President Inonge Wina to head the Ministry of Planning as well as elevated two junior ministers to be ministers, according to a statement released by presidential spokesperson Amos Chanda.

Stephen Kampyongo, who was a Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice-President and Greyford Monde who was Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, will now head the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock respectively.

The Zambian leader further moved John Phiri who was Minister of Local Government and Housing to the Ministry of General Education.

However, the ministers for energy and water development and for communications and transport will be named in due course, the presidential spokesperson added.

The Zambian leader also appointed a lawmaker from the government Patriotic Front Lawrence Sichalwe as Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice-President. Endit
