UAE urges global environment data share

Xinhua, October 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday called for more global efforts to collect data about the environment so that the world can achieve the green goals set by the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

"The UAE is committed to increase the quality of data of its environment and to cooperate globally," UAE minister of environment and water Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad told the 2nd Eye on Earth summit, which began here on Tuesday.

He called for joint efforts to exchange data and expertise on monitoring the water quality of the oceans, seas, rivers, and forests and mountains to fulfill the UN's 2030 agenda.

The UAE, a major oil supplier, has set an example by collecting environmental data from 2006 to 2014, which is the basis for the Arab Gulf state to implement a strategy to reduce pollution and to improve air and water quality, he said.

Over 650 delegates from governments, UN bodies and non-governmental organizations and the private sectors are taking part in the three-day Eye on Earth summit. Endit
