Tokyo shares surge by opening on TPP deal

Tokyo shares surged by opening the trading Tuesday as investors' sentiment here was boost by overnight gains in overseas markets and a broad deal reached by the 12 members of the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talk.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 350.68 points, or 1.95 percent, from Monday to 18,356.17.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 25.11 points, or 1.72 percent, to 1, 489.03. Endi
