Hingis, Mirza win WTA Wuhan Open doubles

Former world No.1 Martina Hingis of Switzerland and India's Sania Mirza won their seventh WTA doubles title of the year at the Wuhan Open on Saturday, a premier-level tournament held in the hometown of former Chinese tennis star Li Na.

Already a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, 35-year-old Hingis paired with 29-year-old Mirza to beat the unseeded Romanian duo of Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-3 in roughly an hour in the final.

Hingis and Mirza only started to pair up in March this year, but had collected seven WTA doubles titles already -- Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Wimbledon, the US Open, Guangzhou and Wuhan, including the last three tournaments in a row.

The world's top ranked doubles team are heading to the Premier Mandatory-level China Open in Beijing, where they are the No.1 seeds, and the season-ending Singapore final.

"We have been playing well. Hopefully we will keep on going for two more weeks for the year," Hingis said after the match. "We are playing better and we are playing with a lot of confidence. We feel really solid and we feel like we were pushed to win."

"We get along off the court and on the court. We complement each other's games. We are good friends who trust each other in tough moments," Mirza said of her Swiss partner.

Hingis, who reached No. 1 in the rankings and won five Grand Slam singles titles in the 1990s, initially quit tennis in 2002 because of foot and leg injuries. She announced her retirement in 2007. In 2013, She came out of retirement to play doubles tournaments.

Last year, Hingis also won the Wuhan Open doubles title with Italy's Flavia Pennetta. Endi
