Myanmar opposition party urges for campaigning under law

Xinhua, October 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), has urged its candidates and party members to campaign for the upcoming general election in accordance with the election law and the directives of the Union Election Commission to make the election a success.

According to a latest statement of the NLD, there are some areas where the party's billboards and flags were destroyed, party members beaten and canvass activities disturbed.

Some leaflets against the party and its leader were distributed and blocking of carrying out election campaign was done by a group of hooligans, the statement said.

The statement pointed out that such acts constitute electoral crime and lawlessness.

Meanwhile, the originally-set venue for campaigning speech by chairperson of the NLD Aung San Suu Kyi in Manau Park in Myitgyina, Kachin state on Friday was reportedly sealed by the authorities a day ahead and the venue for her campaign is being urgently changed to nearby Kachin Nationalities Traditional Culture Sports Ground.
