Former baseball player Victor Mesa was re-appointed as the coach for the Cuban national team to take them to the upcoming World Baseball Softball Confederation's (WBSC) Premier 12 tournament, announced the Cuban Baseball Confederation on Thursday.

The organization informed through a press release that the former star center fielder and current mentor of Cuban team Matanzas in the National Series was appointed due to his recent results and experience coaching other teams at various international competitions.

Among the highlights of Mesa's career as the national team's coach was reaching fifth place in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Mesa was also helped the national team win the gold medal in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games held in the Mexican eastern state of Veracruz.

The organizers of the WBSC's Premier 12 world championship have asked for the names of each team's 28 players before October 10.

The teams will only undergo a few changes due to injuries or problems. Changes can be registered up until the event's technical workshop.

In it's first edition, the tournament will bring together the world's top 12 teams and they will face each other in various cities in Taiwan and Japan from November 8 to 21.

Cuba will form part of Group A alongside Canada, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Italy and hosts Chinese Taipei while Group B is made up of Japan, the United States, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Venezuela and Mexico. Endi
