HKSAR gov't releases full report of inquiry into vessels collision incident near Lamma Island

Xinhua, October 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday released the full Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Collision of Vessels near Lamma Island on Oct. 1, 2012.

The Commission of Inquiry into the Collision of Vessels near Lamma Island submitted the report to the chief executive on April 19, 2013. At that time, as charges for manslaughter had been laid against the two coxswains involved in the incident, the government, having sought legal advice, decided to redact those parts of the report relating to issues concerning the responsibilities of the two coxswains so as not to affect the criminal proceedings.

Since all criminal proceedings that might be affected by the report have been concluded, the government uploaded the full ( unredacted) report to the GovHK website for public information.

Thirty-nine people were killed and nearly 100 others injured in the ferry collision, which was the most serious maritime accident in Hong Kong in the past four decades. Endi
