People's Daily urges faith, fortitude for national cause

Xinhua, September 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese must have strong faith, show fortitude and maintain preseverance in carrying out reform and achieving development, according to an editorial to be published in Thursday's edition of state mouthpiece the People's Daily.

With China going through major reform and the economy plateauing, the country is "climbing up the toughest part of a steep hill before reaching the summit," said the editorial marking the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

It is "no picnic" to realize modernization in a country of 1.3 billion people, maintain medium-high economic growth with a GDP of 10 trillion U.S. dollars, balance economic development with environmental protection, close the gap between rich and poor and restructure the economy, according to the editorial.

"History proves that Chinese have had the resolve and ability to overcome all kinds of difficulties. With concrete actions, we will prove to the world that Chinese have little reason to be pessimistic about the future of their country, as we are advancing on the correct path," the People's Daily will tell its readers.
