Famous Portuguese stars staged a concert Monday night at the theater Teatro Municipal Sao Luiz in capital Lisbon to raise money for refugees.

Artists performing in "Lisbon Welcomes" (Lisboa Acolhe) included Sergio Godinho, Jorge Palma, Camane, and Dead Combo.

Portugal will be taking in around 4,500 refugees out of a total 160,000 under the European Union (EU)'s quota scheme, and is expecting to receive around 70 million euros (78.70 million U.S. dollars) in community funds until 2020.

The first Syrian refugees to be resettled in Portugal under the EU quota plan will arrive in October, local media reported on Monday.

Tickets for the concert cost from 15 to 40 euros and all revenue will go to associations involved in taking in refugees in Portugal.

Several more concerts will take place around the country to raise money for refugees, including a concert organized by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation with the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra on Oct. 18. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Endite
