20 soldiers wounded in PKK bomb attack in eastern Turkey

Xinhua, September 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 20 Turkish soldiers were wounded on Monday in a roadside bomb attack staged by militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in eastern Turkey, local Bugun news reported.

The PKK militants remotely detonated the bomb planted in the backyard of an officers' club in the Tatvan town of Bitlis province, wounding 20 soldiers traveling in a military vehicle, according to the report.

The injured soldiers were taken to hospital for treatment, it said, adding that a manhunt was launched to capture those responsible for the attack.

Since the collapse of a delicate cease-fire in late July, PKK attacks have killed over 150 Turkish soldiers.

In response, Turkey has carried out air raids against PKK camps in northern Iraq and imposed curfews in many towns across the southeastern Sirnak and Diyarbakir provinces. Thousands have been detained in counter-terror operations.

The PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States, has also conducted sabotage attacks on key infrastructure in the east and southeast of the country, targeting pipelines and railways. Endit
