IS fighters attack security checkpoints in E. Afghanistan: media

Militants loyal to the so-called Islamic State (IS) commonly known as Daesh for the first raided security checkpoints in Afghanistan, local media reported on Sunday.

"Hundreds of Daesh insurgents attacked security checkpoints in Achin district of the eastern Nangarhar province at 06:00 a.m. local time today," Tolo television reported in its news bulletin.

The attacking militants captured two security check posts but police recaptured, Achin district governor Mohammad Ghalib said, according to media report.

This is the first time that Daesh fighters engaged with Afghan security forces.
