Xinhua, September 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Newly promoted Ingolstadt remain unbeaten on the road as they held Cologne to a 1-1 draw at the opener of the 7th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

Marvin Matip's equalizer cancelled out Cologne's opener through Anthony Modeste to snatch the second draw of the season.

The 47,800 spectators at the Rhein-Energie-Stadium saw a powerful performance by Cologne in the opening period. As a consequence, Cologne's Yuya Osako had the first promising chance from inside the box, which was defused by Ingolstadt goalkeeper Ramazan Oezcan at the second minute.

Moments later, the visitors got also their first effort on target as Markus Suttner forced Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn to make a diving save following a set-piece. However, Cologne controlled the proceedings and broke the deadlock with ten minutes into the game as Anthony Modeste headed home Marcel Risse's cross to mark his fifth goal of the season.

It was a short lived joy by the hosts as Bundesliga newcomers Ingolstadt restored parity only eleven minutes later out of the blue. Marvin Matip made it 1-1 on the scoreboards after nodding home a corner kick by Pascal Gross.

After the restart, goalscoring opportunities remained a rare occurrence at both ends of the pitch. Nevertheless, Cologne worked out two chances to seal the deal but neither Simon Zoller nor Yuya Osako were able to beat Ingolstadt keeper Oezcan.

With the result, Cologne climb to the 5th place for now while Ingolstadt jump on the 6th place.

"I'm very satisfied with our performance. We had some opportunities but the opponent remained dangerous on the fast breaks. We have tried everything until the end," Cologne head coach Peter Stoeger said.

"I'm content with the share of the points. We played against a strong team that made our live difficult," Ingolstadt head coach Ralph Hasenhuettl said.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: Wolfsburg host Hannover, Stuttgart see Monchengladbach, Augsburg meet Hoffenheim, Bremen encounter Leverkusen, Mainz clash with front-runners Bayern Munich and third placed Schalke visit Hamburg. Endit
