Former Ligue 1 runners-up Monaco need a winner from the penalty spot in stoppage time to complete a 3-2 comeback win at bottom-placed Montpellier on Thursday.
Fabinho scored the winner with seconds remaining after the hosts' goalkeeper Jonathan Ligali expertly denied Bernardo Silva's header but fumbled a cross and clattered into Monaco striker Guido Carrillo.
Montpellier came to the interval with a 2-0 lead as Daniel Congre turned home from a corner to put the hosts in front on 26 minutes and an own goal from Guido Carrillo just before the break doubled the advantage.
Monaco defender Fabio Coentrao pulled one goal back just before the hour mark before Thomas Lemar leveled the scores nine minutes later.
With the victory, Monaco extended their unbeaten run at the Stade de la Mosson to 17 Ligue 1 matches and move up to the 10th place in current rankings.
Leonardo Jardim, who was angered by Monaco's display in their 1-1 Europa League draw with Anderlecht and their 3-2 defeat at home to Lorient last weekend, hoped his side to gain some extra mental strength.
"In the second half, we were superior. It wasn't enough on Sunday, but today it was. That's football," he said. "I'm happy for the players. This win will help them mentally. This is a new group that needs time to gel." Endit
