China acts on wild bird slaughter

Xinhua, September 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

China's forestry authorities will start inspections of important wild bird habitats and migration routes to control illegal killing of birds.

This fall and winter, forestry authorities should enhance patrols in major habitats, wintering and breeding areas of wild birds, as well as their migration routes and stops during migration, the State Forestry Administration said in a notice.

Strong measures should be taken against slaughtering with nets, poisons, laser radiation and guns and destruction of habitat.

From now to the spring of 2016, local authorities should give no administrative approval for migrant bird killing except for special purposes, including scientific research, disease control and airport safety protection.

In the same period, forestry authorities will cooperate with other government departments to screen for illegal transactions and smuggling of wild animals. Endi
