Vietnam is expected to see September inflation rate lowest in the past 15 years, according to General Statistics Office on Thursday.
Specifically, the country's Consumer Price Index, the main gauge of inflation, is estimated to decrease by 0.21 percent in September compared to the previous month.
As a result, Vietnam is likely to see a 0.4-percent rise of inflation in nine-month period, the statistics office said on a monthly CPI report on its website.
Spending on new school year drives the price of education group up by 1.24 percent in September compared to the previous month, the highest level of price hike among the commodities in the CPI basket.
Four among the 11 commodity groups are estimated to see fall in prices, including food and foodstuff, housing and construction materials, transportation, as well as postal service and telecommunication.
In September, the price of transportation group posts the sharpest fall of 3.17 percent over August due to recent petroleum price cut.
Though not included in CPI calculation, the prices of gold and U.S. dollar in September are likely to increase by 3.54 percent and 2.71 percent compared to the previous month, respectively.
Monthly CPI in Vietnam is calculated from the 15th day of the previous month to the 15th day of the reference month. Endi
