FIFA reject Barca appeal to inscribe Turan

Xinhua, September 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

FIFA have rejected the appeal by FC Barcelona to allow the club to inscribe Turkish international Arda Turan into their squad.

Barca had asked FIFA to allow Turan, who they signed from Atletico Madrid this summer, to become part of their first team squad after Rafinha, suffered a season ending knee injury whilst playing against Roma in the Champions League a week ago.

The club were banned from including new players in their squad for two transfer windows as a result of irregularities in signing underage foreign players for their youth system and had alleged that as they will be able to include new players when the transfer window opens in January, the ban had actually expired on August 31st.

The Spanish Football Federation allows clubs to include new players in their squad outside of the transfer window if a player is injured for the duration of the season and the club can provide the relevant documentation. However, FIFA has responded by insisting the ban had to remain in place until January 1st 2016, when Barca will include both Turan and former Sevilla wingback Aleix Vidal in their first team squad.
