Police in Nigeria on Monday confirmed the killing of at least 54 persons in the Sunday night multiple explosion in Maiduguri, the restive northeast Borno state capital.
State police spokesperson Victor Isuku disclosed this at a new conference in the city of Maiduguri. He said there were multiple explosions at Ajilari Cross Evening Market, Ngomari Area of Maiduguri when a female suicide bomber blew herself up in the busy market, at about 7.45 p.m. local time on Sunday. ATHENS -- Greece's radical left SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras was sworn in on Monday as prime minister as the winner of Sunday's general elections.

CAIRO -- The Egyptian security forces killed 19 militants on Monday during massive raids in the Western Desert and the restive Sinai peninsula, the Egyptian military spokesman said.
Brigadier-general Mohamed Samir pointed out that 10 militants were killed and one was injured and arrested in the Bahariya Oasis region in the Western Desert and nine others were killed on the 15th day of a large-scale anti-terror campaign in North Sinai province. (Egypt-Militants) Endi
