Burkinabes woke up on Friday in a state of uneasy calm after their first night of curfew under the National Council for Democracy (CND) led by Gen. Gilbert Diendere who, on Wednesday night, overthrew the transition government.
In Ouagadougou, some residents were seen going about with their normal activities, while still expressing fear.
The city is still under the control of the putschists who detained Interim President Michel Kafando, his Prime Minister Yacouba Isaac Zida and members of government.
The city's main market still remains shut, and the curtains of shops situated along the major streets are lowered.
The petrol stations in the city center are closed, and eyewitnesses in other towns told Xinhua the situation was similar in other towns.
"I do not have a choice. I have to go and buy my products. It is God who protects us," a trader in Ouagadougou told Xinhua.
Gen. Diendere who took over the leadership of CND, is on Friday expected to hold talks with Senegalese President Macky Sall, the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Diendere's house in his original home of Yako, about 100 km northeast of Ouagadougou, was burnt on Thursday by angry protesters. Enditem
