First asylum seekers to arrive in Gabcikovo in Slovakia

Xinhua, September 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Slovak Interior Ministry has been informed that the first Syrian asylum seekers arriving from Austria will be temporarily accommodated at Gabcikovo in Northern Slovakia, announced director of the Slovak interior minister office's press department, Ivan Netik, on Thursday.

"We're providing everything, the accommodation is ready. Food is being prepared at the moment. Security measures are being applied," stated Netik.

The surveillance system in the village should be reinforced as well, according to the official, saying the number of police officers in Gabcikovo police corps district has been increased by 10.

"We must emphasize that they're seeking asylum in Austria and will only be temporarily accommodated in Slovakia. They'll be returned to Austria when they're granted asylum. We don't expect them to commit any crimes or cause disturbances because it could mar their chances of asylum," added Netik. Enditem
