Commemoration shows world China's contribution to WWII victory: Xi

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

President Xi Jinping has praised the events held earlier this month to commemorate the WWII victory for showing the international community the contribution China made during the war.

Xi made the remarks after hearing a report summarizing activities held to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World War II, which culminated in a military parade in the heart of Beijing on Sept. 3.

Xi's thoughts were publicized on Wednesday.

"The event [...] consolidated our belief in the path, theory and system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and showcased our nation's belief in safeguarding peace and justice," Xi said.

According to Xi, the event highlighted the significant contribution China made to the victory of the world war against fascism.

"[The commemoration] will surely leave a profound mark in the collective memory of Chinese people of all ethnic groups and have a major influence on China's development and world peace and development," Xi said.

Xi praised the organizing group and everyone else involved for making the activities a resounding success.

Xi urged the Chinese people to translate the "spiritual fortunes gained from the commemoration" into power to ensure reform, development, stability and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

"More should be done to promote and interpret the correct view on history, the path of peaceful development and the historical truth that justice, peace and the people will prevail," said Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at a Wednesday conference to mark the success of the commemoration activities.

A highlight of the conference at the Great Hall of the People is Xi's meeting of the officials of the organizing group as well as representatives of the troops and artists that took part in the parade.

Liu called for high-quality follow-up commemorative activities. Endi
