Protest held in Philippines to call for end to defense pact with U.S.

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

A protest was held here on Wednesday to call for an end to the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the United States and the Philippines.

Protesters converged in front of the U.S. Embassy with paint bombs and placards around 6 a.m. local time, according to local media.

Protesters engaged police in a shoving match as they threw paint bombs at the embassy gate and waved anti-EDCA placards while charging towards police lines near the embassy gate.

The windshield of a patrol car was hit by a hard object and broken during the clash that ended with the arrest of six young protesters.

The rally also aimed to mark the 24th anniversary of the historic Philippine senate vote rejecting the continued stay of the U.S. military bases in the country. Endi
