(Sports) No change in plan for F1 Singapore GP so far: organizer

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Though many events have been cancelled or affected due to the worsening haze in Singapore this week, organizers of the Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix said on Tuesday that there is still no plan to change schedule for the upcoming race this weekend.

"The haze situation is highly changeable not only from day to day, but from hour to hour. Therefore, it is currently not possible to reliably predict what the PSI level might be over the race weekend. We will continue to work closely with all the relevant government authorities to receive the best possible forecasts when they are available," Singapore GP said.

This year's race will kick off on Friday, and Singapore GP said earlier that it has set up a series of contingency measures in response to emergencies, including the possible haze in Singapore.

In fact, this is not the first time F1 faces haze problem. Last year, the three-hour Pollutants Standard Index (PSI) went up to 129 in the middle of the race here, but the race was not disrupted. And in 2013, F1 was postponed by 20 minutes during the training race in India, due to poor visibility caused by heavy air pollution.

Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Tuesday that the 24-hour PSI readings for the next 24 hours is expected to be in the mid to high section of the "unhealthy" range, and may enter the low section of the "very unhealthy" range. The haze might be blown away by winds from the east on weekend. Endi
