Why becoming a CPC official? Cadres urged to set example

Xinhua, September 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Why become a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC)? Why become a Party official?

Cadres have been repeatedly told by President Xi Jinping to set a good example in their work, their lifestyle and their service to the people. They are told to mind their words and deeds and judge themselves according to the Party's constitution and rules.

"Only through constant introspection can officials truly improve themselves; only by adequate supervision can the required pressure be maintained to sustain sobriety in officials," said Xie Chuntao, a professor with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, when remarking on Friday's study session attended by members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

All CPC members have a duty to improve themselves, correct their misbehavior, and accept supervision, he said.

At the study session, President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said, "We should always keep the 'three stricts and three earnests' in mind, adhere to the truth and resolutely correct misconduct that goes against the cause of the CPC and the people."

The "three stricts and three earnests" are a set of expectations for officials in their lifestyles and work. It refers to being strict in morals, use of self-power and discipline; being earnest in decision making, business affairs and behavior.

An education campaign for officials at or above the county level is an important part of Party building this year, and all Party committees have been involved in studies and inspections since the campaign started in April. Cadres are required to aspire toward good examples and draw lessons from negative cases, while striving to solve problems and carry out criticism and self-criticism.

Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee have taken the lead in implementing the eight-point frugality rules to fight graft, extravagance, bureaucracy and formalism.

Now, according to Xi, CPC officials should improve and discipline themselves, stressing that the nature and purity of the CPC, as well as its image and prestige, will determine the future of the Party and the nation. Endit
