Autumn is not just a season for harvest. In most part of the vast country, the heat and humidity of summer have gradually faded away while crispy air and light breezes attract people to do more outdoor activities.

Therefore, sports events gathered over the weekend as there were one international meet and two national level competitions kicking to a start together with two marathons and several other competitions including cycling and race walking.

Beijing world championships winner Liu Hong took an easy win in an 10km race walking event held in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Ethiopians Goitetom Haftu Tesema and Belachew Alemayehu Ameta took the women's and men's victories in Wuqing marathon in Tianjin.

In the meantime, Ethiopian runners swept both the men's and women's podiums in Taiyuan marathon in China's middle province Shanxi where more than 30,000 professional and amateur runners joined races in different categories.

Also on Sunday, Poyang Lake cycling event saw its sixth stage won by Georgiev Petrov of Bulgaria. Poyang Lake is China's second largest behind Qinghai Lake where the cycling event named after the lake has become the most famous cycling tour in China.

On Saturday, the national games for the disabled and China's special Olympic Games opened in Chengdu, Sichuan province when the national mind sports games began in Zaozhuang, Shandong province with a total of 2,150 players from all over China competing in Chinese chess, Chess, Go, Bridge, Draughts and Gobang.
