A prison official in northern France is taken hostage, local media reported Wednesday.

According to BFMTV, the deputy director of the prison in Vendin-le-Vieil was kidnapped.

The deputy director was taken hostage at around 11:00 a.m. local time (0900 GMT) by a prisoner who was held in solitary confinement, according to BFMTV.

The prisoner might be "very dangerous" and "armed," said authorities of the Pas-de-Calais region, cited by local media. Endi
