Saudi diplomat booked for raping two Nepalese domestic helps in India

Xinhua, September 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian police have booked a Saudi diplomat for repeatedly raping his two Nepalese domestic helps over the past four months in his house near the national capital.

The two Nepalese women were also rescued from his apartment in a posh condominium in Gurgaon, some 25 kms from the Indian capital late Monday night, a senior police official said Wednesday.

However, the cops are checking whether the Saudi diplomat enjoys diplomatic immunity. "We are waiting for his diplomatic status and will proceed accordingly," he said, on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the Indian External Affairs Ministry has sought a detailed report from the police on the case, sources said.

One of the two domestic maids has claimed that they have been confined to the flat by the diplomat and his family and repeatedly raped by the man and his friends.

"We have been in captivity for around three to four months. They raped us, kept us locked up, did not give us anything to eat, " she told the media.

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia has refuted the allegations as " false" and said the diplomat enjoys immunity, which may make it difficult for the police to pursue a rape case against him. Endi
