Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann has renewed his calls for an EU summit on the current refugee crisis to be held as soon as possible and urged European solidarity on the matter.
Speaking to the media following a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Faymann said there would be no easy solutions from such a meeting, and they would have to include a fair distribution of asylum seekers amongst member states, and the EU would also have to stand behind the UNHCR Refugee Agency.
He reiterated a recently-made statement that during the Greek banking crises EU heads of government would regularly meet, and that "what we need now is the same effort."
The chancellor said it was "unacceptable" that some countries are also not taking part in finding a joint solution, simply because they are not a central part of the crisis.
Faymann also called for steps to be taken on an international level, as well as "common standards" for the processing of asylum seekers.
He added that some countries must remember that "asylum is a human right." Endi
