Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo commented on Tuesday that Spain is looking for international support to be able to take military action against DAESH (the IS) in Syria.
Speaking on radio station, Cadena Ser, Garcia-Margallo made it clear what Spain's objectives are.
"Spain," he said, was "desperately looking for international support" to be able to collaborate in the fight against IS.
"It would be enough for us to have a decision for the Security Council of the United Nations, NATO or the European Union."
"Spain wants to be very clear on this. There is no room for negotiation or dialogue with DAESH. A military solution is necessary, but it has to be under the umbrella of international legality," he insisted.
Such action would mean moving closer to Syrian leader Bashar Al Asad, whom the West has wanted to see out of power, but Garcia-Margallo, saw no problems in a u-turn in that respect.
"You always make peace with your enemies," he commented, proposing a partial ceasefire to allow the arrival of aid to the Syrian people with the aim of helping promote "a process of democratic transition."
Garcia-Margallo is currently in Iran and said that Spain would also play its role in the ongoing refugee crisis.
"Spain has to bring all of the refugees it can, but we have to be sure that when they arrive they have a place to stay and food," he said, before assuring Spain would "honor its promises of solidarity." Endit
