Xinhua, September 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Marathon runner Solomon Munyo Mutai was on Monday voted best Uganda sportsperson for the month of August.

The 22-year old who won bronze at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China was voted by members of the Uganda Press Association during their monthly meeting.

Mutai came fourth at last year's Commonwealth Games in Scotland recorded a time of 2:13:30, while 19-year old Eritrean Ghirmay Ghebreslassie won the gold medal.

The athlete beat Uganda's Netball She Cranes team by a difference of 55 votes. Mutai collected 500 votes as the sports journalists thought he had done enough to win the award. The Netball team finished eighth at the 2015 World Cup held in Australia last month.

Mutai said his focus will now be to qualify for the 2016 Olympics where he is confident he will win a medal. Endi
