Roundup: Violent incidents leave 13 dead, 14 wounded in Afghanistan

Militancy and violent incidents in Afghanistan had left 13 people dead and 14 others injured in the country's northern Balkh and eastern Logar provinces on Saturday as a meeting of donor nations was underway in the capital city Kabul, officials said.

In the violent incident which happened in Balkh province, 13 civilians were shot dead by unknown gunmen.

"A group of unidentified armed men, apparently Taliban militants, stopped two vehicles in Hazrat Bai area of Zari district and after pulling out all passengers from their cars shot dead 13 commuters, all civilians," the head of the villagers council in the area, Sayed Abdul Rahim, told Xinhua.

The attackers allowed only one woman to leave alive, he added.

The bloody incident took place at around 11:30 a.m. local time when the ill-fated people were on their way to the provincial capital Mazar-e-Sharif.

Police spokesman in Balkh province, Shir Durani, also confirmed the bloody incident and said that investigation has been initiated into the case.

In an violent incident earlier in the eastern Logar province, 14 civilians sustained injuries when a suicide bomber blew up himself in a bus station, provincial council member Mohammad Qasim Sediqi said.

Four of them are in critical conditions, he said, adding that the suicide bombing also damaged several vehicles and houses nearby.

The bloody incidents took place when a senior officials meeting of donor nations was going on in Kabul where delegates from some 60 countries gathered to review Afghanistan's achievements over the past years and make new pledge to the militancy-hit country.

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani vowed at the conference that the country will fight corruption, ensure good governance, alleviate poverty and maintain peace and security in the country. Endi
