Azarenka fights back into US Open third round

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka cruised past Yanina Wickmayer 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the third round of the US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium here on Thursday.

"I really had to fight back. When somebody's playing well, you just try to find a way," said Azarenka, who is seeded 20th this year after struggling with injuries much of 2014.

Down 4-5 in the first set against Wickmayer, Azarenka held and then broke Wickmayer again to win the first set. At 5-4 in the second set, Azarenka converted her first match point to finally eliminate Wickmayer.

"It was a very tough match. She's an amazing fighter and sometimes you feel like you're playing against the wall, so I have to find a lot of ways to make her out of balance and to be aggressive and try to find empty space in the court," said Azarenka. Endi
