Zambia's FA, Supersport sign broadcasting deal

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia's football governing body on Thursday announced a new contract with Africa's premier sports channel, Supersport, for the broadcast of local league games.

The new five-year deal, worth 5 million U.S. dollars, will see the South African based sports channel broadcast premier league games up to 2020.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) said in a statement that the development was exciting and a milestone in the development of football in Zambia and that it demonstrates the trust the South African soccer channel had in the league.

"Our football is in a privileged state. With this five-year extension, live television guarantees our clubs a new platform of opportunity and assures them of a stage from which they can further engage into and or expand commercial ventures based on this guaranteed five-year undertaking," Kalusha Bwalya, the FAZ's president said in the statement.

The 1988 African footballer of the year added that the development also guarantees an unrivaled platform to continue showcasing the heightened competition of the local league and the high football standards that continue to make Zambia's football and its administration an admirable component in Africa.

"The challenge for us is to continue to work hard as one united family, to continue on development path and safeguard the interests, integrity and credibility of our game through exemplary and professional conduct on and off the field," he added.

The Zambian super league comprises of 16 teams. Endit
