FTSE 100 increases by 0.41 pct on Wednesday

FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Wednesday increased by 0.41 percent, or 24.77 points, to 6083.31 points, as British construction PMI boosted the market sentiment.

British construction purchasing managers' index (PMI), a gauge of the industry activities, edged up to 57.3 in August 2015 from 57.1 in July 2015, said Markit Economics Limited Tuesday.

A figure above 50 suggests that the sector is growing.

Equipment rental company Ashtead Group led the top gainer of London blue chips with a gain of 7.74 percent.

Hikma Pharmaceuticals, Inmarsat, 3i Group and International Consolidated Airlines Group increased by 4.36 percent, 3.31 percent, 2.94 percent and 2.75 percent respectively.

Commodities trader Glencore's share price dropped by 8.02 percent, topped the losers of the blue chips.

Share prices of Randgold Resources, CRH, G4S, BP declined by 2.45 percent, 1.22 percent, 1.19 percent and 1.17 percent respectively.

Trading volume in FTSE 100 companies was around 7 percent smaller than the 30-day average. And the index has lost 4.41 percent so far this year.

The broader FTSE All-Share Index gained 0.38 percent. Endit
