Albania launches major operation against business informality

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama declared declared on Tuesday that a joint campaign involving different government agencies kicked off to fight business informalities across the country.

Some 600 joint inspection groups consisting of officials from customs, taxation, labor inspectorate, the state police will take part in the operation against informality or theft in order to protect consumer and support every enterprise operating legally, Rama said at the launch event.

He urged citizens to take part in a "patriotic war" against informality, for example, by refusing "to pay for a good or service if the trader doesn't give you a tax receipt."

According to an announcement by Albanian taxation office, fines will be imposed not only over businesses but also over customers. The fine for the latter who do not take the fiscal receipt of the product they purchase in the market is worth 1000 lek (8 U.S. dollars). Enditem.
