Hungary closes down Budapest's main railway station due to migrant influx

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hungarian authorities closed down Budapest's Eastern (Keleti) Railway Station on Tuesday morning as the building was swamped by hundreds of refugees seeking transport to Germany.

No information has been given on how long the station will remain closed.

The platforms and the area in front of the station were crowded with people who were being prevented by police from boarding the four trains in the station.

According to local media reports, trains are being halted at small stations on the outskirts of Budapest and the ones scheduled for domestic destinations are being rerouted.

Hungarian police on Monday allowed refugees with travel documents and tickets to board trains bound for Germany. Endi
