A concert at the "top of Europe," Jungfrau, borders on something surreal, but for the young Chinese pop singer Deng Ziqi it's also a dream come true.
With the snow-capped panoramic scenery of the Alps mountains, the 24-year-old talent, also known by her stage name G.E.M., on Monday put on an energetic music show at the height of around 3,500 meters, marking the first Chinese artist to perform at Jungfrau, a symbol of Swiss Alps.
A sleek, black helicopter closed in on a platform of the Jungfrau, not rattling too much of the pristine, snow-clad mountain. It was the red-shirted Deng who stirred an avalanche of applause when she walked out.
On a stage built on the snow, the star took hold of the audience with her hit songs. The altitude had not seemed to cramp her style, nor stunted her powerful voice.
Deng was born in Shanghai and moved to Hong Kong when she was four. She gained more popularity after competing in a famous Chinese singers' reality show - "I am a singer."
"Bringing Chinese music to Jungfrau is incredible," Deng told Xinhua, adding that singing on the top of Europe makes her dream come true.
Deng's concert came after China and Switerzerland initiated series of cultural events to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"Our Chinese friends will remember this event for a long time, an event organized in their honor and which illustrates the friendship between our two countries," Jean-Claude Biver, the organizer and CEO of TAG Heuer told press.
As an UNESCO world heritage site, Jungfrau welcomed more than 850,000 visitors in 2014. China, South Korea and India pumps out the most visitors. Endit
