Malta's parliamentary secretary for animal welfare announced the timetable for this year's autumn hunting season hours on Monday.
Hunting birds on land is to be allowed between Sept. 1 and Jan. 31 from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset on any day between Monday and Saturday, and between two hours before sunrise and 1 p.m. local time on Sundays and public holidays.
However, bird hunting on land between Sept. 15 and Oct. 7 won't be permitted between Monday and Saturday at night.
Anyone who is caught shooting or trapping protected species will automatically be fined 5,000 euro (about 5,600 U.S. dollars) and could face imprisonment for one year, as well as losing their hunting or trapping licence.
Last spring, Malta held a referendum on whether or not to ban hunting, which saw hunters narrowly win the right to continue the disputed bird hunting tradition. Endit
