Tokyo stocks fall 1.28 pct on soft factory data, murky Fed outlook

Tokyo stocks closed 1.28 percent lower on Monday amid uncertainty about the U.S. monetary policy outlook and unexpectedly soft Japanese industrial output data in July.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 245.84 points, from Friday at 18.890.48. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 12.75 points, or 0.82 percent, lower at 1,537.05.
Decliners were led by iron and steel, machinery and nonferrous metals issues.
The turnover was 2,746.00 billion yen (about 22.69 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
